I.F.B.M.W. Mission

Destigmatizing Mental Illness: We aim to dismantle the harmful stigmas surrounding mental illness within the Black community. Through education, open dialogue, and community engagement, we work to foster an environment of understanding, empathy, and acceptance. By promoting the idea that seeking help is a sign of strength and courage, we encourage individuals to prioritize their mental well-being without fear or shame.

Increasing Access to Care: We recognize the disparities that exist in accessing quality mental health care for Black individuals and communities. Our efforts are focused on advocating for equitable access to culturally competent, affordable, and evidence-based mental health services. We collaborate with providers, policymakers, and stakeholders to develop innovative solutions, improve healthcare infrastructure, and reduce barriers that hinder access to care.

Improving Wellness among Black Communities:

We believe that wellness extends beyond the absence of illness. We strive to enhance the overall well-being of Black communities by promoting holistic approaches to mental health. Through culturally tailored programs, workshops, and resources, we empower individuals to prioritize self-care, resilience, and personal growth. Our aim is to cultivate a sense of empowerment, promote healthy coping mechanisms, and foster supportive networks within Black communities.

Through our mission, the Institute for Black Mental Wellness envisions a future where mental illness is destigmatized, access to care is readily available, and wellness is nurtured within Black communities. By working collaboratively with individuals, organizations, and policymakers, we aspire to create lasting systemic change that promotes the mental well-being and flourishing of every Black individual. Together, we can create a society that embraces and supports Black mental wellness, ensuring that every person has the opportunity to thrive and live their best life.
